Celebrating A Decade of Festival DJing

10 years ago I played my first ever DJ set at a festival. It was the very first Bestival (I’d performed at Glastonbury earlier that year but as a rapper not a DJ) and even though I’d been booked as a litter picker, not as a DJ, I managed to blag myself a set once onsite.

Back then I was still mostly vinyl so I’d packed a sleeping bag full of Reggae 7″s, just in case, I was glad it wasn’t a wasted journey! The next year me and Matt The Hat took the Inflatable Church and I’ve played nearly every Bestival since in some shape or form.

However this year will be the first time since 2004 that I shall be playing a Reggae set again, on their brand new Reggae stage (see flyer above). I’m just sorting out which tunes to take and am massively excited. Despite programming the music for both Lion’s Den and Hidden Woods at BoomTown, I rarely get to play out as a Reggae DJ any more.

So if you’re heading to the festival and happen to be reading this please come along for some Sunday afternoon skanking. I shall be playing 3.45pm-5.15pm.

I shall also be playing with Matt The Hat and Hypeman Sage (Subculture Sage are also playing on the new Reggae Stage on Sunday) as Big Swing Soundsystem (in Club Dada Thursday 23:00 – 00:00 and the new Matua stage from 18:45 – 20:15 on Sunday) and with Matt The Hat again as Wedding Crashers every night at the Wedding Disco. Hopefully see you there at some point.
