Songhoy Blues – Irganda

It’s been refreshing to hear a whole new generation of Malian Bluesmen making a reputation for themselves over here. Ever since the likes of Ali Farka Touré and Salif Keita first made me (and many others I’m sure) sit up and take notice of the music there I’ve always had a soft spot for the country and it was an absolute pleasure to bring the mighty Tinariwen to BoomTown Fair last year. There are a number of artists that stand out for me at the moment: BKO Quintet; Tamikrest; and Samba Touré to name but a few, however it’s Songhoy Blues who seem to be getting the most attention at the moment, rightfully so I’m sure.

This is their latest uplifting single, taken from their debut album Music In Exile, which is out on 23rd February via Transgressive. They are hitting the UK for a tour this week and I very much look forwards to seeing them for the 3rd time for their Bristol show on the 31st of this month. Check them out if you get the chance!
