Rhiannon Giddens – Black Is the Color

I’m pretty sure I’ve previously posted up past members of the Carolina Chocolate Drops such as Dom Flemons and Leyla McCalla, but not ever current lead singer, violinist, banjo player and founding member Rhiannon Giddens, so here’s a song from her debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn.

It’s a great uptempo Gospel leaning version of the old Appalachian (though it’s roots are expected to have begun in Scotland) Folk classic Black Is The Colour Of My True Love’s Hair as previously sung by the likes of Nina Simone, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Cara Dillon and my personal favourite, Christy Moore.
