Griselda Sanderson feat. Simo Lagnawi – Carnera The Biggest Horse

I love listening to musical conversations, where the instruments are not just playing together but actually talking to each other. The interaction both in the tune and the video certainly put a smile on my face.

It’s also great to hear something that sounds like traditional British Folk, that isn’t played on traditionally British instruments. Griselda is playing a Nyckelharpa, which translates as key harp but seems to have more in common with a fiddle than a harp, whilst Simo, who I know from Electric Jalaba (who we had at BoomTown last year), as well as Gnawa Blues All Stars (who I saw up at Knockengorroch this year), is playing the Guembri, a camel-skinned bass instrument of which he is considered to be the top player in the UK. There are some other instruments in there also, including Louis Bingham on guitar but I quite like that these two have been highlighted.

This track features on the album Radial, which you can but directly from Waulk Records here.
