Baaba Maal – Gilli Men

Baaba Maal was the first Senegalese musician I ever came across back in the late 90s, and he is probably still the biggest. So it’s a pleasure to hear this track from his new album. An updated sound that still makes lots of sense to me, rather than going for something far too slick and over produced. Okay there’s a bit of the dreaded autotune involved, but subtle and tasteful still in my opinion. Hopefully it’s indicative of the whole album, The Traveller, which is out on 15th January 2016, a week before he plays at Colston Hall in Bristol, so I shall hopefully catch him live then also.
