Lankum – What Will We Do When We Have No Money

Although Lynched were often sold to me as Folk Punk, they are certainly a far cry from the likes of Flogging Molly, The Levellers or Days N Daze. For me they very much follow a traditional path but with a raw honesty that connects deeper to me than many of their twee contemporaries.

Now going under the name Lankum, the Dublin based four piece’s new album ‘Between the Earth and Sky’will be out 27th October on Rough Trade, who already have Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker and This Is The Kit among their more Folk driven signings.

The song they’ve chosen for the opening track of the album is a traditional Irish Traveller song (if you’ve not heard the Mary Delaney version then seek that out afterwards), and it’s a stunning take on it that really makes you stop and pay attention. If you’re in any way inclined to such music then make sure you allow yourself the full 5m49s to take it in properly.
