Tshegue – Muanapoto

When Parisian Afro-Punk duo Tshegue’s debut EP dropped last year, I got so caught up in ‘Survivor’, I didn’t really pay this track the attention it deserves. Thumping along at 132bpm, there’s a heavy Techno element to this but underlined with African rhythms and percussion. I’m tempted to make comparisons with Konono No. 1, possibly due to singer Faty Sy Savanet’s roots in Kinshasa (DRC), it’s certainly as hypnotising but actually very different with the lack of likembé, plus the warm funky bassline brings it an almost Afrobeat feel.
