14 years ago, around this time of year, I performed at Glastonbury for the very first time. It was as a rapper rather than a DJ, myself and life long partner in crime Dregz were guest vocalists with a funk band called Dark Chunk on the ‘Dance Stage’ (way before Silver Hayes, Arcadia or the current south east corner residents), we also provided vocals for a contemporary dance piece with Reform Dance in the Theatre & Circus tent. The reason I’m saying this now is because the above video features the original powerhouse vocalist from Dark Chunk – Suzi Chunk.
It’s the debut single from Cardiff based group The Naked Citizens, a space / cosmic / Italo disco track that sounds like it was plucked straight from the late 70s, a little like a track Spiller might have been listening to when they made ‘Groovejet’ and it suits Suzi’s vocals perfectly. A more demure version of her than the funk fueled force I used to know, but delivered with just as much strength as ease.
