Anyone looking closely at the Whistler’s Green line up for Boomtown this year would have got the scoop on the fact that Black Acre had signed Scott Xylo, as he’s DJing on their Thursday night Windmill stage takeover. Even if he is a new name to some of you, this release alone should get you excited for what might come out of his bag for that one.
I have to be honest, I’ve rated him before, as have the likes of Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs, but this latest release is another step up in my eyes. As we’ve come to expect from Black Acre, whose output has been nothing short of magnificent for years, the quality is unquestionable. It’s pleasing without being too easy, with various African influences throughout and lead vocals courtesy of Afronaut Zu aka Zulu from Orphgang, who is also a vocalist for Rudimental and previously Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons.
