Who Am I?

Hi, thanks for checking in.  My name is Kaptin Barrett and I’m a DJ, festival programmer and all round music addict based in Bristol, UK. AAA Badboy (pron. Triple A Badboy) is my latest DJ incarnation, born from my love for and involvement with the festival scene (named after the Access All Areas pass) but also the name of this where I cover festival and carnival culture from a musical perspective.

I’m currently Head Of Music for Boomtown Fair, a 70,000 capacity forward thinking and theatrical beast of a festival which covers all kinds of music from Ska to Soca, Rap to Reggae, Folk to Funk to Punk, Bass to Balkan or House to Hardcore Techno, so you will also find all of this music covered here.

Check out my Mixcloud page for all manner of mixes.

If you’re unfamiliar with Boomtown, you’re really missing out. Check out the after video for last year…

I also play regularly at other festivals. A few to mention have been Glastonbury, Bestival, Isle Of Wight, Fusion, Secret Solstice, Clockenflap, WOMAD, Secret Garden Party, Festival Number 6, Shambala and Electric Picnic, although there have been many, many more.

In my various incarnations I’ve also recorded mixes for BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra and BBC Radio Wales and co-host the Super Soca Show on Ujima 98FM every Saturday from 12-2pm GMT, covering Soca from all over the Caribbean.

  1. Hey Kaptin, met you years ago outside Clwb Ifor Bach and subsequently came to a few of the Higher Learning nights – Killa Kela sticks in my mind as being particularly awesome! Just wondering – would you be interested in hearing some of my music with a view to blogging it up? I’m a violinist and rapper from Cardiff, now living in Bristol. Mike Dennis

Wondered if you’d be able to give me the tracklisting from Friday night from about 1.30-3am in the wedding disco. Some really good techno wanted to know the names of the songs.
    Only ones i recognized were:
    Inspector norse by Todd terje

Could you give any of the names of the other songs?
    Cheers.
