THE SUPER SOCA SHOW

I love that when I moved to Bristol I found a Soca support group who could help me one day at a time with (fueling) my Soca addiction. Through acts such as Jus Now and nights like Ruffneck Diskotek or Tun Up!, the city is slowly undergoing a mini Soca revolution. Generally in effective revolutions, securing the media is an important part so I’m happy to announce that a group of us have indeed taken over the airwaves… well, once a week at least. That’s right we have our very own Soca show in Bristol! Those lovely folk at Ujima 98FM have given us every Saturday lunchtime from Midday to 2pm to play the latest and greatest tunes from across the Islands. There’s Groovy and Sweet Soca, Power Soca, Dennery Segment, Bashment Soca, Jab Jab and much more with part of each show dedicated to a particular island plus the Chutney tune of the week and at least one classic from the vaults.

You can tune in live on 98FM if you’re in Bristol or http://ujimaradio.com if you’re not. We have also started a Mixcloud account to archive the shows, the first two are up there already. Click here to check those out and be a part of the revolution! If you’re feeling it spread the word also as we want as many people to feel the love that we (that’s Dub Boy, Atki2, Jonesy Wales and myself) have already for Soca music.

If this is your vibe and you’re coming to St Paul’s Carnival, we shall all be playing an after party at The Attic in Stokes Croft (just on the edge of carnival) alongside Jus Now, Rakka and Rukkus. You should also be able to catch us in Carnival itself, we’re still working out details but the likeliest places are on the LimeTime truck or in the yard at the corner of Wilder Street and Dean Street.

Here’s a little taster of the music from this week’s show.
